CCP, I have always wanted to see Dust 514 succeed, grow, flourish and evolve to the next level. It seems that you have tried various approaches to resolve performance issues over the years. Now you're looking into power cores in order to reduce redundencies in memory. I was disappointed to hear that normalization was overlooked until this point in the SDLC.
There are a few fundamental techniques, code profiling for one, that allow a developer to get a handle on performance bottlenecks.
Maybe it is time to enlist the services of a professional: http://www.snsystems.com/
The sn systems team creates tools for playstation developers, and perhaps they'd even consult with your developers, and walk them through resolving some of the harrowing performance issues that have plagued us.
I know it's late in the game, but there are a lot of players who care about this kind of thing and I'm certain that a Dust 514 tuning fund raiser would generate enough cash to cover consulting expenses and the purchase of their key development tools.
Best wishes on catching up to the competition! |

I call on the power of singlemono to take matters into his own hands, build a budget for the necessary tools and resources to fix Dust performance issues, re architect, reengineer and revamp where necessary and deliver us an overall polished product fit to compete in this age of high-velocity MMOFPSs.

CCP, were you able to get ahold of them? What did they say? I'm curious as to whether or not their development tools can aid your efforts. |
